Massage Therapy, Blacksburg, VA
Nancy Mignone, Licensed Massage Therapist, Blacksburg
My philosophy is to facilitate the highest, best, most effective massage therapy session for each client, based on their current issues and needs.
I completed 500 hours of training in massage therapy at the Blue Ridge School of Massage and Yoga in July of 1997, and have been practicing massage therapy ever since. I graduated from a 200 hour yoga teacher training program at The Breathing Space in Blacksburg, VA (Anna Pittman's studio) in 2004 and taught yoga once a week for 10 years. I have completed a 200-hour program in cranial sacral therapy from the Lyons Institute in Virginia Beach. In 2010 I completed myofascial training for the hip and pelvis, back and neck from Advanced Trainings and local Rolfer, Chris Pohowsky.
I hold a Bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in German and International Studies, and a Master's degree from Virginia Tech in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences with a concentration in field botany.
I have been a client of massage since 1983 when I took my first classes from a massage therapist. (My second massage therapist was Ralph Stevens, who is now a well-known author and educator in the world of massage therapy). I know first hand how helpful massage was for me in dispelling the physical tensions accumulated as a student and then doing office work. I got interested in massage therapy about 30 years ago because I wanted to give my friends better backrubs! I have been interested in human anatomy and physiology since my first course in high school.
I've been living in Blacksburg since 1989. I am married, have one child, and live in Shadowlake Village, a co-housing community. It's a lot like the old-fashioned neighborhoods we all grew up in back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Everyone knows each other really well. It's GREAT for kids! I enjoy walking, hiking, biking, reading, guitar, and drumming.
